Henri Schuster (1794 – 1872)

President of the Consistory (1842-1848).

Henri Schuster was initially a trader, representative in Brussels of the London firm Léo Schuster et Compagnie, managed by one of his brothers, and then administrator and commissioner of various insurance companies. He was commissioner of the Société belge d'Industrie sétifère (from 1837) of the Chemin de Fer d'Anvers à Rotterdam and of the Banque de Belgique (1858 and 1865). His directorships included Le Phénix insurance company, Alliance, Caisse Hypothécaire, Hauts-Fourneaux de Pommeroeil, Fabrique Belge des Laines Peignées, Actions Unifiés and Union du Crédit. He was also a judge at the Commercial Court of Brussels from 1858. Henri Schuster was a member (1832- 1834), then president of the Central Israelite Consistory of Belgium (1848-1849) and contributed to the creation of the Société de Patronage d'Apprentis et Ouvriers israélites in 1846. He was also a Freemason and administrator of the Hospices and the Benevolent Society of the City of Brussels until his death.
